We work with churches and church plants to create a visual identity that connects with their community.
CASE STUDY: River City Church
River City Church is a North American Mission Board church plant in Vancouver, Washington. Most people are anti-Christianity, especially since it is the USA’s most unreligious area. Their neighborhood is 26% Hispanic, and many millennials move there from nearby Portland and Seattle. Modernity and clean design are very important in what MoveHub dubbed the “most hipster city in America.”
We worked alongside them to establish River City’s branding and create a launch campaign.
River City Church came to us with a name and an open mind- so we worked with them to create the rest of their visual identity! We established a logo that represented movement and water in a fresh way, with bright colors and clean lines. From there, we created a Brand Guide for their staff and leaders to use, outlining the individualized fonts, colors, and logo variations that should be used in all church communication. We created a variety of designs and products: Business cards, guest info cards, church and baptism shirts, offering envelopes, interior signage, the list goes on!
If you are redoing your church website or logo, we *highly* recommend a complete overhaul of your visuals. Guests like consistency, and if they are drawn to your church by an attractive website, but greeted by dated offering envelopes and bulletins, it can seem misleading. You’ll save time and money if you make everything match at once!
It was vitally important to create a mobile-responsive website for River City that made it easy for people to learn about this new church. We also needed to draw attention to their unique Sunday schedule. Their homepage features a large editable rotator, three feature spaces, and large images that bring attention to each Sunday’s unique event. Their Instagram feed automatically updates at the bottom of the page, showing recent photos. River City offers live Spanish translation at each service, so we created a Spanish version of their website as well! We also created branded Facebook and Instagram accounts, and did market research to create a social media strategy that continues bringing new likes and follows from the community.
Most people in River City’s community aren’t searching for church- so we needed to connect with them through things they are searching for- like community. We created the You Belong Here campaign leading up to their Easter Sunday launch. The consistent visual style across all promotional materials helped establish credibility and name recognition in the community. We created door hangers, invite cards, sandwich boards, and a 5,000 postcard mass mailer campaign. We also launched a hyper-targeted ad campaign on Facebook with a casual video invitation from the pastor (We provided the script and he recorded it on his phone using a teleprompter app. Easy as that!). Another ad campaign caused their Easter Egg Hunt event to go viral, with over 600 people in attendance! The best part? A woman was drawn in by the You Belong Here message on a sandwich board, and ended up becoming a Christian and actively growing in her faith.
River City Church relies on outside partners for financial support, so they needed professional, practical ways to share their vision with churches and businesses. To connect on a personal level and help people remember their family, we put a family photo on the front of each business card and prayer postcard. We also created a printed prospectus to hand out, filled with endorsements, photos, their vision and mission statements, and ways to give. Their fundraising website offers even more information about their city and church, including handouts and screen graphics for churches to use as needed.
